NEW DELHI: Officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday held a press conference to address the team’s performance in the T20 World Cup, where the Indian national cricket team went on to win the title. During the press conference, Pakistan all-rounder Aaqib Javed spoke about the team’s results and also referred to the long-standing record against India in the ODI World Cup.Speaking alongside former Pakistan players Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq, Javed said Pakistan should not continue to use India’s record as an excuse.
IPL 2026 should be an audition for India’s next T20I captain
“Not being able to beat India in the World Cup is no excuse, they are 8-0, and even the best world captains played from 1975 to 2026, so put that aside.
In the Super 8 stage, one match was washed away due to rain, we lost one match and nothing else happened.” He said.“Against Sri Lanka, winning by that margin was not achievable. We only lost one match. We were just wiped out on net run rate. It’s too much to make it such a huge issue. It’s a big problem, but not so big that it will ruin our cricket or make us unable to compete anywhere in the world.”The discussion also brought back the earlier debate involving inclusive Pakistan
Shadab Khan
.
During the tournament, Shadab responded strongly to criticism from former players after Pakistan’s defeat by India in Colombo. When asked about the statements of former cricketers like
Shahid Afridi
And Muhammad Yousuf pointed out that their teams had never beaten India in the World Cup finals, unlike Pakistan’s victory in the 2021 T20 World Cup over India. Shadab was part of the 2021 squad.“Former cricketers have their own opinions. They (former players) were legends, but even they couldn’t achieve what we have.
We beat India in the World Cup,” He added. The letter also contained nothing but disrespect for former players, including Shadab’s father-in-law
Saqlin misses
.Saqlin himself expressed his disappointment with these statements. “Those were unsolicited comments, and most of the players played along with me. In fact, I am also one of those people who have not won an ICC event, but we have won many big matches for Pakistan, Tests and ODIs,” Saqlain said on a Pakistani program.
