Bangladesh produced a solid all-round performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 34 runs in the second T20I, leveling the three-match series 1-1 and setting up a winner-takes-all decider on Sunday. After being comprehensively outclassed in the opener, the visitors responded in decisive fashion with a much-improved display in all three departments. In contrast, Zimbabwe endured a rare off day with bat, ball and in the field, dropping several balls before falling short in pursuit of a challenging target of 187.Bangladesh took full advantage of the reprieve offered to post 186, before their bowlers ensured Zimbabwe did not gain momentum in the chase.

Zimbabwe’s on-field problems proved costly

Zimbabwe’s problems began in the field as a series of dropped catches allowed Bangladesh’s top order to take control.Opener Saif Hassan was the biggest beneficiary, saving several chances when he combined with Tenzid Hassan Tamim in a brilliant 120-run opening partnership that laid the foundation for a competitive total.Despite the poor play, Zimbabwe briefly fought back by taking five wickets in quick succession, raising hopes of restricting the visitors to a below-par score.

However, Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin ensured Bangladesh finished strongly. Saifuddin provided fireworks late, smashing four sixes off Brad Evans in the final over to push Bangladesh to 186 and shift the momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour. The final attack was decisive, with Zimbabwe ultimately left to regret the costly mistakes that allowed Bangladesh to build such a massive total.

Rashad and Mahdi achieve a comfortable victory

Zimbabwe never posed a real threat during the chase as the Bangladesh bowlers batted at regular intervals.Unlike the opening T20I, where Zimbabwe dictated proceedings, none of their batsmen were able to convert starts into a big innings. The home team kept losing wickets at crucial moments, preventing any meaningful partnerships from developing. No Zimbabwean batsman crossed the 30-run mark as the required run rate continues to rise.Rishad Hossain was the main destroyer, finishing with four wickets to derail the chase, while Mehedi Hasan provided excellent support with three scalps.Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack completed the batting effort perfectly, ending Zimbabwe’s innings 34 runs short of the target. The comprehensive win was the perfect response by the visitors after their disappointing defeat in the series opener. It also ended Zimbabwe’s early dominance of the tour, as the hosts were unable to match the intensity they showed in the first match. With the series now tied at 1-1, both teams head into the third and final T20I match on Sunday knowing that a win will secure the series.
