New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their extraordinary dominance over Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday, scripting a unique piece of IPL history with a blistering 33-run victory that sent them to the top of the IPL 2026 points table. The win marked SRH’s ninth successive win over PBKS in Hyderabad – and is now the longest winning streak for a single team against an opponent at a single venue in IPL history. The record-breaking streak surpasses Chennai Super Kings’ eight consecutive wins over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chepauk between 2010 and 2024.

The latest chapter in SRH’s dominance was aided by another advanced batting led by Heinrich Klaasen, whose explosive 69 off 43 balls helped SRH compile 235/4 at home.

Klaassen and Kishan punish PBKS after a great start

After being put into bat, SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head unleashed carnage once again in the powerplay.

The duo raced to 54 runs in just 21 deliveries, with Abhishek smashing 35 off 13 balls while Head scored 38 at breakneck speed. Then Punjab’s sloppy performance made matters worse.Ishan Kishan survived several chances – Cooper Connolly missed nine, Lockie Ferguson missed 18, and later eluded a simple chance from Prabhsimran Singh. Klaassen also got a life in the ninth over when Shashank Singh spilled a catch.Missed opportunities proved costly as Klaassen and Kishan put together a crucial 88-run partnership. Kishan hit 55 while Klaassen accelerated brilliantly at the death before falling off the last ball of the innings. The South African wicketkeeper-batsman also rose to the top of the Orange Cap standings with 494 runs in 11 matches this season.

Connolly’s historical hundred is not enough

Punjab’s chase never got going after Pat Cummins removed Priyansh Arya in the opener and Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Prabhsimran Singh soon after.Marcus Stoinis and Suryansh Shedge started but failed to convert as wickets continued to tumble regularly.Only Australian youngster Cooper Connolly stood tall amidst the collapse. The 22-year-old smashed an unbeaten 107 – his maiden ISL century – and became the youngest foreign player to score a hundred in ISL history, surpassing the previous record set by Quinton de Kock. With the emphatic win, SRH rose to 14 points from 11 matches and strengthened their bid to reach the top two, while PBKS surrendered top spot after another disappointing outing in Hyderabad.
