New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi may have just made his India debut, but that did not stop him from sharing his thoughts with senior opening partner Abhishek Sharma during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford on Saturday. In a moment captured on microphone, Abhishek was heard asking the 15-year-old about the nature of the pitch.
Abhishek Sharma: “Samne jayegi ki piche maaru? Kya lagta hai?” (Should I play up front or back? What do you think?)Sooryavanshi answered calmly. Suryavanshi: “Dekh lo. Double Bounce Ho Raha Hai. Kyunki ye Tez Nahi Aayi. Aur Bhi kam tha.” (See for yourself. The ball bounces twice because it doesn’t come quickly, and the bounce is also low.)The exchange quickly caught attention, with fans expressing their appreciation for the youngster’s confidence despite playing his first international match.
The teenager’s first historical appearance
Sooryavanshi’s much-awaited debut for India finally came against England as he became the youngest cricketer to represent India in international cricket. At just 15 years and 99 days, the left-hander broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of 16 years and 205 days to become the youngest Indian player to make his international debut. He has also surpassed Piyush Chawla in the all-time list.
A fearless hit in her debut
The Behar youngster showed no signs of nerves during his short stay at the crease. He scored 14 runs off just 10 balls, including two sixes. One of these came from English pacer Jofra Archer, while the other was hit by Josh Tonge.
His entertaining innings came to an end when he bowled Will Jacks down the field and was caught off guard by wicket-keeper Jos Buttler. While Suryavanshi impressed with his fearless approach, Abhishek Sharma continued his good form at the top of the order. The left-hander made 43 off just 24 deliveries, hitting eight fours and a six before he was dismissed by Sam Curran.
