Rishabh Pant loses Test vice-captain, Prince Yadav gets ODI call-up - Key highlights from India squad announcement for Afghanistan series

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, both scheduled to be played in June in India. Rahul replaced Pant as vice-captain of the Shubman Gill-led Indian Test team.

Ravindra Jadeja, the first-team all-rounder, was rested in the Test match. While Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey are the new faces included in the Test squad.

Among the notable additions in the ODI series was fast bowler Prince Yadav, who had an impressive season playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026.

Jasprit Bumrah and Jadeja were rested

  • Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was rested from the Test series and the one-off ODI against Afghanistan as part of workload management.
  • Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja rested From the one-off Test against Afghanistan and also from the ODI series.

Gurnor and Mazen Suthar get the first call-up

  • Spin bowler Manav Suthar and pacer Gurnoor Brar earned their first call-ups to the Test team. They are both teammates of IPL Gujarat Titans.

Rahul gets named Test vice-captain

  • Flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been removed as vice-captain of the Indian Test team.

Prince gets ODI call-up. Ishan Kishan returns

  • While Prince Yadav is the new face in the ODI line-up, with Ishan Kishan being the second wicket-keeper.
