Pat Cummins has reportedly been offered a major contract extension by Cricket Australia which could see the Aussie captain earn nearly A$4 million a year until 2029, as global franchises continue to target top international stars.According to reports from the Sydney Morning Herald, the proposed deal would increase Cummins’ profits by about A$1 million a year and could be worth nearly A$12 million over the next three years if approved.

The move comes amid growing concern within Cricket Australia about the cricket franchise’s growing financial drag. Cummins and fellow Australian star Travis Head were reportedly offered around A$10 million last year to step away from international cricket and commit full-time to a franchise around the world.

Although they both rejected the offer and chose national cricket.Cummins was recently ranked among Australia’s highest-paid athletes, with annual earnings estimated at between A$9 million and A$10 million, including his national contract, Indian Premier League salary and commercial endorsements.Under Cricket Australia’s current agreement structure, the average central men’s contract is worth just over A$1 million per year before match fees, bonuses and superannuation.

However, sources familiar with the negotiations claim that Cummins’ proposed extension would include more guaranteed money, regardless of how many games he plays. The long-term deal will keep Cummins associated with Australian cricket until the age of 36. The fast bowler has already struggled with injury concerns in recent years and missed almost the entire Ashes summer with a back problem. While Cricket Australia and Cummins management declined to comment publicly on the negotiations, CA’s head of cricket, James Allsopp, acknowledged the need to better reward the country’s biggest multi-format stars.“They’ve earned the right through long-standing performances for Australia in various formats,” Allsop said. “Market pressure is strongest on the players who generate the most commercial value. Players like Butt, Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head are in high demand globally, so maintaining their commitment to Australian cricket is a key priority.”Australia are gearing up for a very demanding international schedule over the next year, potentially playing 21 Test matches over a 12-month period. The calendar includes home series against Bangladesh, New Zealand and England, overseas tours to South Africa, India and England, as well as a potential appearance in the World Test Championship final.
