New Delhi: Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich pulled off one of the greatest Champions League semi-finals ever, as Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern 5-4 in a thrilling first leg in Paris on Tuesday.The match became the highest-scoring semi-final in Champions League history, with both teams attacking relentlessly from start to finish. Harry Kane opened the scoring for Bayern from a penalty kick before Hvicha Kvaratskhelia equalized with a wonderful individual effort.Joao Neves then headed PSG in front, but Michael Olise quickly made it 2-2. Paris Saint-Germain regained the lead before the end of the first half from a penalty kick by Ousmane Dembélé.The second half continued at the same crazy pace. Kvaratskhelia scored again after a quick counter-attack for Paris Saint-Germain, while Dembele added another goal to make it 5-2 and put the French champions in complete control.Kvaratskhelia was once again the standout player for Paris Saint-Germain, as he continued his impressive form in the Champions League this season.Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos said after the match: “I’m sure everyone who loves football really enjoyed watching that. It was a real pleasure to play in that match, the kind of game we dream of playing in as kids.”
Bayern is resisting
Despite being late, Bayern refused to give up. Dayot Upamecano pulled one back with a header before Luis Diaz scored Bayern’s fourth goal to preserve the tie ahead of next week’s second leg in Munich.“We fought, we hung on, and we got back into the fight,” Kane said.The winner of the two legs will qualify for the Champions League final in Budapest later this month.
