New Delhi: Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 took a huge hit after losing to England, but they are still completely out of the race.England chased down Pakistan’s target of 164 runs thanks to a brilliant century from skipper Harry Brook, who scored 100 off 51 balls, helping his side advance to the semi-finals on Tuesday.

Pakistan had earlier scored 164/9, with Sahibzada Farhan top-scoring with 63 runs, while Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman added 25 runs each. England’s bowlers kept things tight, but Brook’s batting proved too powerful. For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi took four wickets, but it was not enough to stop England. With this result, England qualified for the semi-finals. As for Pakistan, they have one point from two matches (one loss and one lost match), and they still have a small chance of qualifying, depending on the results of the other teams.

For Pakistan to reach the semi-finals, some things have to go their way. First, Pakistan must defeat Sri Lanka in their final match in the Super 8 tournament. After that, they will have to lose to New Zealand in their remaining two matches. If that happens, Pakistan will advance on points and qualify. If New Zealand wins one match and loses one, qualification will fall to net run rate (NRR), meaning Pakistan will need to have a better scoring and bowling record than New Zealand. Any other set of results would knock Pakistan out of the tournament. In short, Pakistan must win their last match and hope for positive results from the two New Zealand matches to survive the World Cup.
