Dharamshala: The Indian team management has pinned its hopes on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s development as a complete bowler as they search for a stable replacement for injury-prone Hardik Pandya. On Saturday, amid Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s onslaught on the Indian attack, when captain Shubman Gill bowled Reddy, he responded with a brilliant four for 2/31 to restrict the visitors’ innings.Reddy is aware that when Hardik returns, it will be difficult for him to retain his place in the playing XI. To make the most of the opportunities that can arise, he has been working hard to hone his bowling skills over the past year, even working with UK-based bowling coach Stefan Jones.
“I thought I was a forward footballer and I started working on stride lengths because I wanted to go a lot faster in the lead-up to the attack.
It changed the way I bowled a little bit. “It’s going well now and there are some further improvements that I hope to make in the coming days,” Reddy said.Reidy was understandably reluctant to reveal details of working with Jones. “It’s only been seven days since we worked together. We discussed the details, worked on them and identified some points where I need to change a little bit in my bowling. We are working on it, which is what we want to achieve in the coming days.”
