Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run in men’s tennis by defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Madrid Open title on Sunday. The world number one cruised to a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win and made history by becoming the first player ever to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles. The Italian star appeared to be in complete control of the final match and did not allow Zverev a single break point during the match. Sinner has now beaten the German nine times in a row on ATP tours and has lost just two sets during his impressive title run, which includes victories in Paris last year, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid in 2026.After the victory, Siner said that the achievement was the result of years of effort, discipline and sacrifice.
He admitted that staying at the top requires constant hard work and realizes that difficult periods are also a normal part of the sport.“I think there is a lot of work behind it. I make a lot of dedication and sacrifices every day. Seeing these results obviously means a lot to me. At some point, the results will go down, which is normal,” Sinner told the ATP website. The 24-year-old also spoke about the importance of trust and having the right people around him.
He said he remains focused on improving every day in training and credited his team for helping them maintain their high standards.Sinner said: “I’m very happy because I’ve continued to believe in myself. I show up every day, every training session, trying to do the right job with the right discipline. To do that, you have to have the right team behind you, which I have. I’m very happy with me, but also with the team, and it means a lot to all of us.”
