New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced a solid all-round performance to edge out Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in a high-scoring IPL match at Wankhede. Buoyed by explosive half-centuries from Phil Salt, Virat Kohli and skipper Rajat Patidar, RCB posted a massive 240/4, which MI were unable to completely chase down despite a late fight led by Shirvan Rutherford.RCB came out swinging from the start, with Kohli setting the tone in trademark style, including a stunning flick for a six early on. Phil Salt then took over, tearing up the MI attack with fearless runs, punishing pace and spin as he raced to 78 off just 36 balls.

The opening position of 120 immediately put MI on the back foot.Even when MI tried to change their bowlers, nothing worked. Salt smashed Mitchell Santner for three successive sixes, while Mayank Markande was dismissed.
Eventually, Shardul Thakur broke through to dismiss Salt, but the damage had already been done. Then Rajat Patidar came on and went into full attack mode, smashing a 17-ball fifty and continuing the carnage with a clean hit over the pitch. Kohli kept his side steady, raising his fifty before falling in the 15th over after scoring 50 off 37 balls. Tim David then added an unbeaten quick 34, taking RCB to the dreaded 240.
MI falls short in the end
Mumbai Indians’ chase has not fully settled despite a good start. Ryan Rickleton looked promising with 37 off 22, but wickets in the crucial moments derailed the momentum. Rohit Sharma’s retirement due to injury hurt their balance early on.
Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya tried to rebuild, but RCB’s bowlers kept batting at regular intervals. Krunal Pandya’s tight spell and Suyash Sharma’s breakthroughs in the middle ensured that MI never got a real launching pad, as they went several overs below a six during a crucial phase. The only real resistance came late from Sharvan Rutherford, who smashed an unbeaten 71 off 31 balls with a flurry of sixes to narrow the margin. However, the target of 241 proved too steep, and MI finished at 222/5.In the end, RCB’s high firepower and early dominance earned them a comfortable 18-run win at the Wankhede Festival.
