New Delhi: Mohammed Shami’s last six, which helped take the IPL 2026 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders to a Super Over at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, ultimately went in vain.
KKR comfortably cruised to victory in the Super Over. Batting first, LSG lost two wickets for just one run as Sunil Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran and then Aiden Markram. After chasing two, KKR ended the contest with the first ball, as Rinku Singh smashed a boundary. The frustration and frustration of letting a win slip away was evident on LSG skipper Rishabh Pant’s face during the post-match presentation.Pant stressed the need for collective accountability after the defeat to KKR.Chasing 156, LSG finished on 155, as Mohammed Shami smashed a six off the last ball of the innings, but his effort was not enough.Speaking after the loss, Pant said the team needed a short break to reset and manage the pressure better.“I think we definitely need a break. I think we’ll bounce back. There’s always pressure, it’s always going to be a pressure game, but at the same time, we have to look for the answers inside, not outside.”
And keep it simple. We need to take responsibility – everyone. For example, it cannot be about one or two people. “It has to be about the entire unit and a lot of people will definitely take responsibility for that,” Pant said.

Lucknow Super Giants chose to send Nicholas Pooran to bat in the Super Over despite his poor form. The left-hander has struggled in IPL 2026 so far, with his highest score in seven matches being just 22 off 25 balls.“We discussed as a group, we had a discussion, and the name that came up was Nicholas Pooran. He may not be having the best form of his life, but at the same time, you will trust your player in a difficult situation like this,” Pant said.Pant admitted there were no excuses for the result. He said: “There are no excuses. Just looking at the positive things, there may not be enough positivity at the moment, but I think after the break, there will be a lot of positive enough for sure.”With this exciting win, KKR moved to eighth place with five points from eight matches, while LSG dropped to the bottom of the 2026 Indian Premier League standings.
