When asked if England needed a flawless performance to beat India at home, Brook said: “No, I don’t think we need a perfect game to win the tournament to be honest.” He added: “The matches we won were not close to perfection, and we are still able to achieve convincing victories in some of them and then tighten the screws in the other matches.”
Brooke credits the team spirit. “But it was the unity that we had to be able to get over the line, the belief that everyone showed throughout the matches and the calmness we had when the bowlers stood at the top of the mark,” he said.Describing the match as special, he said: “It’s definitely there. It’s a dream come true for most of us to play in a World Cup semi-final against the host nation on a very special ground, so we’re all really looking forward to it.”
Despite his confidence, he admitted: “We haven’t played that perfect performance (yet) and I feel like it’s just around the corner… Hopefully tomorrow (Thursday) night.”Brook also backed out-of-form former captain Jos Buttler, saying: “There should be no reason to question why he is in the team.”He dismissed concerns about spin play and said a big individual effort could decide the game: “We don’t feel like we’re out of any game yet… I feel like there’s a big individual performance coming.”
