India captain Harmanpreet Kaur added another milestone to her illustrious career during the Women’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Edgbaston on Sunday, becoming India’s leading run-scorer in the history of the tournament. Harmanpreet entered the top-level competition with former India captain Mithali Raj on 726 runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup. It took just one delivery for the veteran batsman to make a clear move to the top of the Indian charts and claim the record straight away.
The feat came during a crucial innings for India after an early wobble that left the team struggling at 18/2. With openers Shafali Verma and

Back at the pavilion, Harmanpreet joined the vice-captain
Smriti Mandhana
In the middle and helped stabilize the roles. The experienced duo produced a lively 91-run partnership for the third wicket, rebuilding India’s innings and putting the Pakistani bowlers under pressure. While Mandhana dominated with a stylish 68 off 44 balls, Harmanpreet played the perfect supporting role with 36 off 35 deliveries. The India captain mixed caution with aggression, using both the traditional pass and the powerful sweep effectively as she kept the scoreboard moving.
Along the way, she surpassed Mithali’s tally to become India’s most prolific player in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Mandhana’s elegant knock, which included nine fours and a six, laid the foundation for a competitive total, while Harmanpreet’s contribution ensured India bounced back strongly after early setbacks. Although she fell at 36 when Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was caught by Natalia Pervez near the square leg boundary, Harmanpreet has already etched her name in the record books. This achievement is another testimony to Harmanpreet’s longevity and consistency on the global stage. Having featured in multiple editions of the Women’s T20 World Cup, she now stands alone as India’s highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament, surpassing one of the country’s greatest batsmen in Mithali Raj.
