New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad Heinrich Klaasen has given a glowing assessment of Chennai Super Kings, stating that the absence of their charismatic former skipper MS Dhoni “doesn’t make much difference” to the five-time champions in IPL 2026.Speaking after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s mixed start to the season, Klaassen downplayed the impact of Dhoni’s absence as a player, stating that CSK’s strength lies beyond just one individual.“CSK have got an unbelievable record in the Indian Premier League. Even without Dhoni, they are not a lesser team. They are a very strong team. It will not be an easy game,” Klaassen said in the JioStar press room.“Leadership influences more than beatings.”While acknowledging Dhoni’s stature, Klaassen asserted that the veteran’s absence is felt more in the captaincy than his contributions on the field with the bat.“Dhoni not being there doesn’t make much of a difference. It’s more about other people. I don’t think his absence will have such a big impact except for his leadership,” he noted.The South African also pointed out that Dhoni’s recent batting innings has been limited. “He has been coming to bat only 5-10 balls in the last few years,” Klaassen added, stressing why CSK remains competitive even without their iconic striker.
SRH confident despite slow startKlaasen’s comments come at a time when SRH are looking to bounce back after two defeats in their first three matches. Their only win so far came against Kolkata Knight Riders, while losses to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants exposed the gaps.Despite the setbacks, Klassen remains optimistic. “It is still early days for the tournament,” he said. “We are confident that we will be firing on all cylinders in all divisions in the future.”SRH are also dealing with the temporary absence of captain Pat Cummins, with Ishan Kishan taking over as skipper.Targeting batting depth for CSKConsidering their encounter against CSK, Klaassen stressed the need to put pressure on a strong batting line-up.“Shivam (Dubey) is in good form, the opening match was great, we just need to press them a little more,” he said.Klaassen, known for his aggressive style, also spoke of his comfort against spin. “I played a lot against players.
