After Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League, Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé and three teammates brought the trophy to the French Open on Monday and presented it to fans at Roland Garros.Dembélé was joined by fellow French internationals Bradley Barkola, Warren Zaire Emery and Desire Dou.
The quartet received a standing ovation as they entered Philippe Chatrier Stadium carrying the Champions League trophy.
Paris Saint-Germain claimed European club football’s biggest prize for the second successive season on Saturday after beating Arsenal in the final. The match ended in a 1-1 draw before Paris Saint-Germain won 4-3 on penalties at the Puskas Arena.Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi was also present at Roland Garros. The venue of the French Open is located near Paris Saint-Germain Stadium, Parc des Princes.
Al-Khelaifi, a former tennis player, made two ATP Tour appearances during his career, including a match against Thomas Muster, the 1995 French Open champion. He also represented Qatar in the Davis Cup.
Dembele, wearing sunglasses, addressed the crowd and led a familiar chant for Paris Saint-Germain fans.“Ici c’est Paris!” (This is Paris!),” Dembélé shouted, prompting many fans in the stands to join him.Commenting on Paris Saint-Germain’s achievement, he said: “We worked every day all season to win this cup again.
“We will try to win another title next season, but before that there is the World Cup with the French national team.”France will now turn its attention to the World Cup finals, which begin on June 11 and are hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.Dembélé, Zaire Emery, Barcola and Du are scheduled to join France’s training camp on Tuesday ahead of the tournament.France will play friendly matches against Ivory Coast in Nantes on Thursday and Northern Ireland in Lille next Monday before traveling to the United States to participate in the World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19.The draw placed France in the ninth group, along with Senegal, Iraq and Norway.
