Anushka Sharma gets T20 captaincy, Harleen Deol to lead India-A in ODIs during England tour

New Delhi: India-A has announced separate squads for its upcoming tour of England, with Anushka Sharma set to captain the T20 side and Harleen Deol to captain the ODI side. The tour will feature three T20Is starting June 20, followed by three one-day matches starting July 1.Anushka Sharma, who made her international debut recently during India’s tour of South Africa, has quickly earned the responsibility of captaincy on the T20 tour. Vrinda Dinesh has been appointed vice-captain of the T20 team.Meanwhile, Harleen Deol, who missed India’s squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup, will lead England’s ODI team. Pratika Rawal has been appointed vice-captain for the ODI series.The selectors have also rewarded several young and emerging players with places in the India-A setup.

G Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, both of whom have already featured for the Indian senior team recently, have been included in both the squads.Jintimani Kalita has received her maiden call-up to the India A squad in both formats, while Tanisha Singh and Poorvaja Verlekar are among the new faces added to the ODI and T20 squads respectively.

The England tour is a starting point

The England tour is expected to play an important role in developing India’s bench strength and giving young players exposure abroad.

It also comes at a critical time as India continues to build teams for future ICC events.The T20 squad includes players like Minnu Mani, Shabnam Shakil and Tanuja Kanwer, while the ODI squad includes experienced homegrown names like Priya Punia, Tejal Hasabnis and Sayali Satghare.With a mix of young talent and players already on the radar of national selectors, the India A Tour could become an important platform for first-team opportunities in the future.
