PIB Fact Check on Wednesday debunked social media claims that RBI is planning to demonetize paper currency notes and replace them with plastic currency notes by June 30, 2026.

In a post on X, the fact-checking unit called these claims “false.” Citing the RBI, the PIB clarified that there are no plans to demonetize paper currency notes or replace them with plastic currency notes by June 30, 2026.
“As per RBI, there are no plans to demonetize paper notes or replace them with plastic notes by June 30, 2026,” the bank said in its circular.
The video published by the fact-checking unit allegedly shows $100, $20, $50 and $The 10-note notes, along with a caption in Hindi and what appears to be a speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the background, claim the same thing.
PIB said the video was “digitally edited.”
PIB urged the public to rely only on the official RBI website for reliable information and avoid sharing unverified claims circulating on social media. She also asked to always “verify” information before sharing it.
The unit also appealed to users to report suspicious content related to the Government of India to PIBFactCheck.
