Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has not just political novices who have become MLAs for the first time yet The results of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are in, but the two-year-old party also includes people like KA Sengottaiyan, a former AIADMK member.
TVK candidate KA Sengottaiyan registered his ninth victory in the Assembly elections, winning the Gobichettipalayam constituency and successfully defending his stronghold.
This win carries profound significance, as it marks his first successful campaign under actor Vijay’s newly formed party, TVK, after his expulsion from the party. Iyadmk.
Who is Ka Sengottaiyan?
He is currently the chief coordinator of the TVK Executive Committee, and is a former KA Sengottaiyan The Tamil Nadu Minister has more than 5 decades of political experience.
Born on 9 January 1948, he is one of the longest-serving legislators in Tamil Nadu, having been first elected in 1977 at the age of 29.
Sengottaiyan spent most of his career with the AIADMK as a staunch supporter of former chief minister late J Jayalalithaa. During his tenure in the party, he held several ministerial portfolios, most notably the position of Minister of School Education.
He was expelled from the AIADMK in November 2025 over “differences” and joined TVK. He is considered a vital asset within the party due to his extensive administrative and political experience, as he works as a senior advisor and organizer of the new party.
After the results were announced on Monday, Sengottaiyan led a massive roadshow on the streets of Erode, greeted by thousands of enthusiastic supporters and party cadres.
Complete grip on the stronghold
Despite switching his lifelong political allegiance from the AIADMK to TVK in late 2025, the veteran leader has maintained his grip on the seat which he has now represented nine times.
Sengottaiyan defeated his nearest rival, N Nallasivam DMK, with a lead of 16,620 votes, got 82,612 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Far from just one seat, TVK stunned the political world with its stunning debut in Tamil Nadu. It emerged as the largest single party in the Council, winning 108 seats. One of her biggest victories will be Kolathur constituency, where the current chief minister and DMK leader, MK Stalin, lost to TVK’s VS Babu.
