After taking the oath, Keerthana said that the new government will set an example in governance. “It is unbelievable because no other country has such kind of ministers. No one will give us such an opportunity. We will show the world how capable we are of running a government,” she told PTI.

Who is S Keerthana?

Keerthana is the newly elected MLA from Sivakasi, often referred to as the ‘fireworks capital of India’. She has postgraduate studies and is the youngest member of the Cabinet at 29 years old. She won the Sivakasi seat by a margin of 11,697 votes in the recently concluded elections.

She is also the only woman in the Vijay government and the first female MLA from Sivakasi, ending nearly seven decades of male dominance in the constituency.

Fluent in several languages, Keerthana has drawn attention for her strong command of Hindi – particularly in Tamil Nadu, where language remains a sensitive and politically important issue.

A new dawn in Tamil Nadu

Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, marking a new political chapter in the state. Vijay thanked the public for their mandate and called for a united effort to build a government rooted in secularism and social justice. Describing this moment as a new beginning, he spoke with a humble note, saying that he is an ordinary person who avoids false promises and sticks only to what can be achieved.

“Let us all give Tamil Nadu a fresh new government. This is a new beginning for the beginning of a new era of secular social justice,” the new chief minister said to thunderous applause.
