“When I last spoke to him, he said he would reach home in 10 minutes. When I called him again at 12:30, he didn’t pick up. We got worried. We started looking for him. I first went to his office in Rohini, then to Janakpuri police station,” said Bhai.

“Police gave us his last location in this area. We kept looking for him but couldn’t find him. It was very careless. My brother was not crazy that he would fall into the pit intentionally… At 1:30 AM, I checked this pit, but he was not there. We went to at least 6 police stations but even though I called in the morning, my brother’s phone was not picked up, I called again… Called and told us that his body was recovered from the pit… If the police had taken action on time, my brother would have lived,” he added.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood expressed grief over the incident and said strict action would be taken if security lapses were found.

The Delhi Jal Board also expressed grief over the death and said a committee has been set up to probe the incident.

The family searched for Dhyani throughout the nightA friend of the victim said they were asked to wait till 11 am to lodge a complaint with the police. While the police agreed to track the phone, they allegedly did not share the exact location. He said that seven people searched for Dhyani throughout the night but could not find him.

“I spoke to him last night when he reached the district centre. He was only 15 minutes away from home. We waited for an hour, but he didn’t come. An hour later, we came to the district centre. He had met with an accident twice before, so we thought something like that might have happened. He wasn’t taking our calls,” said the friend.

“His bike was nowhere to be seen. When we went to the police station to file a complaint, we were told that our complaint would not be registered before 11 am. On request, the police helped us locate my friend and asked us to look for him here in a radius of 200 meters. 7 people were looking for him from midnight to 7 am, but we did not find him, when we did not find him at 1 am. We were on this road all the time, but after we checked how did he come here? We do not understand that.

Another friend complained of police negligence, questioning why the phone could not be traced at night.

“When we returned home at 7 am, we got a call from my friend’s phone, and the police told us that she had fallen into the pit. Why didn’t the police find her phone at night? We suspect that she was killed… Could it be her parents… We still haven’t informed her mother… She is 25 years old and worked in the call center of HDFC Bank. Rohini has been barred by the police… Now place around the pit. Why couldn’t they have done this to save my friend?

We will investigate the matter: DCP MdDeputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Bhaskar said, the matter will be looked into if the family does not get adequate support.

“A pit was dug for some Delhi Jal Board work. Last night, 25-year-old Kamal Dhyan’s bike fell into the pit, and he unfortunately died. We will investigate all the stakeholders in this DJB work. The deceased’s brother came to Janakpuri police station by 2:45, and his brother’s phone was not tracked, which was not reported to the police. Head constable Ramkesh directed to Janakpuri district park with family members. Searched for the deceased for about 2.5 hours, but they could not find him,” said the DCP.

“Today at 8am, a woman called the police to report that a body was lying in a 15 feet deep pit. That’s when everything came to light… So far, we know the family went to PS Janakpuri, but if the family says they didn’t get help from 6-7 police stations, we will look into it… FIR is being registered… The bike will be recovered soon…” added.
