Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Italy on Tuesday (local time) and was warmly received by his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni in Rome at the historic Colosseum.

Meloni posted a picture with Prime Minister Modi from the Coliseum on social media and addressed him as “my friend”.
“Welcome to Rome my friend,” she wrote in X’s post.
Modi arrived in Italy on the fifth and final leg of his five-nation tour, which included stops in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.
The visit comes amid strong momentum in Indo-Italian relations, with both sides actively working to develop the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, a broad framework for cooperation in multiple fields.
These include trade – which reached $16.77 billion in 2025 – and investment, with cumulative foreign direct investment of $3.66 billion (from April 2000 to September 2025), according to news agency ANI, as well as defense and security, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi said that his visit to Italy will focus on enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
In the ‘X’ post, Modi said he will meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and will also visit the headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), strengthening India’s commitment to multilateralism and global food security.
