A man wanted in six criminal cases was shot dead by unidentified armed assailants in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, police said on Monday.

A senior officer said that the incident occurred on Sunday evening in the basement of the Icon Towers apartment on Ammar Cinema Road in the city.
The deceased, identified as Govind Sharma, was living in the rented apartment.
“The incident occurred between 9.45 pm and 10 pm on Sunday in the basement of the apartment where Sharma was present. Five live cartridges and six empty shells were recovered from the scene,” Kantish Kumar Mishra, a resident of Muzaffarpur, told reporters.
He added that a forensic team arrived at the crime scene and collected evidence.
Sharma had been named in six criminal cases, including murder cases, in the past. Another officer said he was accused of killing former Muzaffarpur mayor Sameer Kumar and real estate dealer Ashutosh Sahu.
The Sudanese police said that the police are trying to obtain surveillance camera footage from neighboring areas and identify the gunmen.
He added, “A special team has been formed, led by the city’s police chief, to investigate the case. The police are investigating all aspects of the murder. We will soon reach the accused and take appropriate action.”
He added that police are investigating whether Sharma’s criminal background has any connection to the murder.
The Public Prosecution said that two cars, said to belong to Sharma, were found parked in the basement of the apartment where he died.
