New Delhi [India]March 24 (ANI): US Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby is in India to communicate with senior officials. Although the visit was scheduled in advance, it gains importance in light of the West Asian crisis.

According to a War Department statement, “Colby is traveling to India today to engage with senior officials in New Delhi to help advance important India-US relations. Under Secretary Colby’s visit will focus on advancing the goals outlined by President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in their February 2025 Joint Statement and on implementing the US-India Major Defense Partnership Framework.”

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore had earlier announced the upcoming visit of Chief Defense Official Elbridge Colby to the country.

In a post on the social media platform “I look forward to welcoming Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby to India!” He said.

The visit marks a historic moment as it is Colby’s first official trip to the country. He is widely viewed as “one of the key figures behind US defense policymaking” during the Trump administration’s second term.

This high-profile mission follows a series of engagements by other senior US military leaders, including Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral Samuel Paparo and US Space Command Chief Gen. Stephen Whiting.

The timing of the arrival is particularly important because it coincides with the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The regional war “strangled supply lines for key products such as crude oil, gas and fertilisers” to India and other Asian countries.

Against this background, diplomatic engagement comes at a time when New Delhi and Washington are intensifying their efforts to rehabilitate bilateral relations after a period of increasing tension.

These frictions were previously fueled by trade disputes, the India-Pakistan conflict in May, and India’s energy purchases from Russia.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi on Monday said that India’s role in diplomacy is to urge everyone to de-escalate tensions and end this conflict. The Prime Minister also informed of his conversation with the heads of West Asian countries. He stressed that attacks on commercial ships and the closure of international waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz are “unacceptable.”

“India’s role in diplomacy is clear. From the beginning, we have expressed our deep concern about this conflict. I have personally spoken to all relevant leaders in West Asia. I urged everyone to de-escalate tensions and end this conflict. India has condemned attacks on civilians, energy and transport infrastructure. Attacks on commercial ships and blockades of international waterways like the Strait of Hormuz are unacceptable,” the Prime Minister said. (that I)
