In a post on X, Mamata Banerjee said Rabindranath Tagore’s “profound life philosophy” is the “eternal guiding light of our daily journey”. Bouchish Bouchach (25 Baisakh according to the Bengali calendar) commemorates the birth of Tagore.

The TMC’s tribute to Tagore also included a stanza from his Nobel Prize-winning poem ‘Bharat-Tirtha’.

The passage reads: “On the ocean shore of this great spirit of India.”

Mamata also wishes that the eternal ideals, far-reaching intellectual currents, awakened consciousness and creative genius of Rabindranath Tagore shine “more intensely in the minds of people all over the world”.

Suvendu Adhikari takes oath

Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday He was sworn in as the first BJP chief minister of West Bengal since independence, officially ending the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule in the state at a closely guarded ceremony held at Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata.

Adhikari’s elevation was formalized on Friday after Amit Shah was declared leader of the BJP legislative council at a meeting of 207 party members in Kolkata.

“A meeting of our legislative party was held in West Bengal. BJP national president nominated Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and me as central observers. We received nearly eight proposals, all of them suggested the same name,” Shah said.

The BJP achieved a historic victory in the two-phase assembly elections, winning 207 of the 294 seats, while the TMC’s seats were reduced to 80 seats.
