ITANAGAR Describing Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India’s cultural heritage, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita on Tuesday lauded the progress made by the state in developing infrastructure and preserving indigenous traditions, while crediting her MPs for helping in bringing major development and textile projects to the region.

Addressing weavers, handicraft artisans and district officials during his visit to Lower Subansiri district, Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, said Arunachal Pradesh occupies a special place in the cultural identity of the country and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to supporting traditional crafts and local livelihoods.

Xi also praised Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his leadership in driving development while protecting the state’s rich tribal heritage, an official statement here said.

As part of the visit, the Minister laid the foundation stone for the Zero Handloom Marketing Complex, a project that aims to provide local weavers with a dedicated platform to display and market their products to a wider audience.

He said the facility would help boost the handloom sector and create greater market opportunities for artisans.

Margherita also distributed specialized tool kits to local artisans under the Comprehensive Handicraft Development Plan to enhance productivity and support the preservation of traditional tribal crafts.

The Minister was given a traditional welcome by district administration officials and community leaders upon his arrival in Ziro.

He later visited Siddheshwarnath Temple in Kardu and attended a breakfast meeting hosted by local MLA Hage Appa, where developmental issues and future opportunities for the valley were discussed.

The statement added that before leaving for Balin in Kara Dadi District, Margarita reviewed the implementation of ongoing central initiatives in the textile and development sectors with district officials and stressed the need for effective implementation of government plans for the benefit of the people.
