Two people – a child and a student – died and 16 others were injured after an APSRTC Ultra Deluxe bus collided with a truck at Bulampeta in Kadapa district on Monday, a police official said.

The accident occurred between 1 am and 1.15 am near Udumuvaripally village when the bus, which was traveling from Tirupati to Kadapa, collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The police said that about six seats on the right side of the bus were damaged as a result of the collision, resulting in casualties and injuries.

“Two people died while 16 others sustained injuries after an Ultra Deluxe bus of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) collided with a loaded truck in Kadapa district,” the official told PTI, adding that the truck driver was also injured and was taken to hospital.
According to police, there were about 27 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. The injured were taken to Rajampet Government Hospital and other medical facilities for treatment.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister M Ramprasad Reddy expressed shock over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
The Minister directed the officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment to the injured and reviewed the condition of those undergoing treatment at Rajampet Government Hospital.
He ordered the authorities to transfer seriously injured people to higher medical centers if necessary, and assured all possible support to the affected families.
Reddy also sought details from officials on road safety measures and details regarding the bus and truck involved in the accident, while directing them to take necessary steps to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the police are registering a case.
