Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar on Friday said show-cause notices have been issued to four former AIADMK MLAs who joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, seeking an explanation for their actions following complaints from the opposition party.

The move comes weeks after four legislators — S Jayakumar (Birundyorai), K Maragadham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), Satya Pama (Dharapuram) and Isaki Subbaiya (Ambassador) — voted in favor of ruling dispensation during the crucial confidence vote on May 13, and subsequently resigned from the Assembly before officially joining TVK. The four legislators tendered their resignation from their posts on May 25 and formally joined TVK in the presence of senior party leaders, including general secretaries N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna, at the secretariat.
The Speaker said 21 All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) legislators have been granted amnesty, while action has been taken against the four MLAs.
“I have already told that they (four former multiple aides) will face action. We have issued a show-cause notice seeking explanation based on the complaint (of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami),” he told reporters here on Friday.
“The show-cause notice was issued to them on June 9. They have to respond within 7 days,” he said in response to a query.
The 25-member rebel faction led by former minister SP Velumani called on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and resolved their differences. They agreed to work as a unified AIADMK under the leadership of party president Palaniswami.
Meanwhile, in response to another query, Prabhakar said the association will consider the possibility of live telecasting of the entire session, which is scheduled to begin on June 18.
“No one’s voice will be suppressed in the assembly,” he said. “We are exploring options for live streaming of the entire assembly session.”
The Speaker said that a two-day training program will be conducted in Chennai on June 16 and 17, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
The two-day program will help new legislators train on Assembly procedures.
“All MLAs have been invited to participate. Even these seniors will be able to share their knowledge with the juniors during the session. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate and address the rally on that day,” he said.
Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlikar is scheduled to deliver his maiden speech during the 1st Assembly session of Tamil Nadu Governor Vetri Kazhagam, scheduled to begin on June 18. The Speaker had already called on Arlikar at Lok Bhavan and formally invited him to address the Assembly on that day.
In place of RN Ravi, Arlikar became the governor of Tamil Nadu on March 12 ahead of the Assembly elections in the southern state.
