Actor Trisha Krishnan on Monday responded to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Naynar Nagendran’s comments that he linked her with actor-politician Vijay as “uninteresting” and “inappropriate”. The BJP leader later apologized for his remarks.

TN BJP chief’s comments ‘uncomfortable’, says actor”My client never expected that such disturbing and inappropriate comments would be made by a person who holds a high position in the political space of the state,” read a statement released by Krishnan’s lawyer.

“My client has made it very clear that he is not affiliated with any political party nor does he intend to be. Furthermore, as my client has consistently maintained in the past, he has always taken a neutral stance when it comes to politics.”

Noting that he wanted to be known for his craft and not a political alignment, the statement added that personal life should never be the subject of public commentary or discourse. The actor requested that his name not be dragged into matters that do not concern him. Sharing the statement on social media, Krishnan posted on X that, “Disrespect must be said.”

Krishnan and Vijay have co-starred in several top Tamil movies. On Saturday, Nagendran Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president pulled out Krishnan’s name in response to reporters’ questions about Vijay, who will make his electoral debut in the upcoming polls.

Nagendran told reporters, “He is inexperienced. Ask him to come out first. Ask him to come out of Trisha’s house first.” He was adding to the criticism against Vijay that he rarely appeared in public.

He added, “Does he have a policy? He has written the (word) policy only on paper. Let him explain his party’s policy clearly.”

After the backlash and Trisha’s statement, Nagendran apologized on Monday. “In my political career I don’t allow and don’t make any personal comments. But I deviated from that that day,” Nagendran said.

Nagendran also added that BJP Jatiya Mahila Morcha president Vanathi Srinivasan and former state president K Annamalai had convinced her that she should not have made such comments. “I sincerely apologize,” Nagendran said.

Earlier on February 14, the DMK criticized Nagendran’s comments, saying it was “uncivilized” to criticize the personal life of someone active in politics. DMK MP Kanimozhi Somu also criticized the drawing of Krishnan’s name in his remarks.
