Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kirti Azad on Wednesday alleged that the police encounter with Prabhas Mondal, an accused in the Baruipur rape and murder case, was “orchestrated” to prevent disclosure of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s internal secrets.

Speaking to ANI, Azad claimed that Mondal was a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker and possessed sensitive information that the party wanted to hide.
“Do you know who Prabhas Mondal is? He is a BJP worker. He has a lot of inside information about them – details regarding their plans and preparations. To ensure that these inside secrets are not revealed, the matter is being staged to make it look like a meeting has taken place,” Azad said.
The TMC member also questioned the feasibility of an encounter taking place while the suspect was under police supervision.
“How could an encounter happen while he was in your custody? You would have tied him up. So, all this is just a charade – nothing more,” he added, claiming that dozens of rape cases have taken place in the state since the BJP came to power.

Turning to the recent developments in the Ram Mandir donation misappropriation case, Azad also launched a scathing attack on the trust, citing internal friction as evidence of financial irregularities. He referred to the public disagreements between trust officials Champat Rai and Anil Mishra.
“The mutual defamation between Champat Rai and Anil Mishra makes the situation very interesting; it has become clear that the theft had actually taken place. And what about Krishna Mohan ji, who has been appointed acting general secretary? The Rs 80,000 seized on the first day were kept at his house before being deposited in the trust’s account,” Azad alleged.
Questioning the delay in legal action regarding the seized funds, the TMC commander dismissed the ongoing investigation as a front.
“Why was the FIR not lodged on that very day? The special investigation is just a charade – a cover-up, nothing more,” he asserted.
Earlier in the day, the prime suspect, Prabhas Mondal, in the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl was killed in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, in a police encounter, according to police officials.
According to Baruipur Superintendent of Police, the incident occurred while reconstructing the crime scene. During the operation, Mondal attempted to snatch a service weapon from an officer and opened fire on the police team, police said.
In the ensuing police retaliation, Mondal was seriously injured. The SP stated that he was taken to hospital but medical authorities declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has planned to hold a rally in Kolkata on several issues, including the Baruipur rape and murder case.
Speaking to ANI, TMC MP Sujata Roy said, “A rally is scheduled to be held from 3 pm from Ballygunge Vari crossing to Hazrat crossing. The Supreme Court has granted permission to hold the rally. It will be a rally of medical students of the party. I am not sure if Mamata Banerjee will participate in the rally.”
Mondal was the prime accused in the rape and murder case of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas. The 12-year-old girl went missing on Saturday and was later found dead in a pond, and the alleged rape and murder case sparked outrage and protests in the region. (that I)
