Two young men were allegedly tortured and beaten by a mob on suspicion of robbery in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district earlier this month. The youths were tied to the pole, beaten and electrocuted by villagers on suspicion of theft.

The incident reportedly took place on July 4 at Karmodia village under Raisen Kotwali police station limits, while the victims reportedly hailed from the Biragi community of Dhanyakhede village, the Times Of India reported. The report added that they were accused of stealing a water pump motor, and were then transferred to a farm where they were tortured.
A video clip of the incident appeared on social media. HT was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the video.

After being beaten to force them to confess, the National Human Rights Commission takes notice
The youths were tied to a pole in the farm and assaulted by villagers in an attempt to force them to confess and to force them to reveal the names of others who were allegedly involved in the alleged theft, ToI reported, citing police.
After the video of the assault spread on social media on Saturday evening, the National Human Rights Committee learned of the incident.
Footage of the incident showed the victims tied to a pole while they were surrounded by a crowd of people who were beating them. The men also gave the victims electric shocks. The two were reportedly subjected to electric shocks using a device installed around farms to protect crops from wild animals.
The National Human Rights Commission took note of the video after its member, Priyank Kanwongo, shared it on his official account X. “We are taking note and issuing necessary instructions,” he added.

Seven stolen cars seized in a theft case: Police
Ashutosh Gupta, police inspector in Raisen, said villagers arrested the two young men on suspicion of stealing irrigation pump motors and took them to the police station.
“A number of stolen cars were recovered from their possession and legal action has been taken in the theft case,” Gupta said. But he added that allegations that the suspects were tortured and electrocuted only emerged after the video appeared on social media on Saturday.
He added that the police immediately learned of the video and filed a separate case against those involved in the attack, and arrested two of the defendants in this regard. The accused have been detained on charges including assault and other related offences, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest the others.
