Graffiti saying “This road is not allowed for Muslims” appeared on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway (NH-72A) near Bhattigarh in Uttar Pradesh, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation, officials said on Friday.
They are also verifying the authenticity of a video that allegedly shows two young women using spray paint to write on railings on an elevated stretch of NH-72A.
Bhatigarh Police, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, said the phrase “Yeh Sadak Musalmanon ke liye nahin hai” was written in Hindi on the side of the road, while its English translation “This road is not allowed for Muslims” was painted on the railing of an elevated iron bridge on the same highway.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain told news agency PTI that an employee of the National Highways Authority of India filed a complaint, based on which a case was registered against unidentified workers of an organization called ‘Hindu Raksha Dal’ under Section 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Section 353(2) relates to statements that lead to public harm and promote ill will between groups or communities.
Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on social media, in which two young women are allegedly writing on the railing of the raised span of the NH-72A aircraft using spray paint. A car with Uttarakhand registration number plate is also seen in the video. Police said the authenticity of the video is being verified.
