NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy’s top commanders will discuss the implications of the West Asia crisis in the context of safeguarding India’s energy security during a three-day conclave starting on Tuesday.

Commanders will also comprehensively review the Navy’s operational posture to protect national maritime interests and develop capabilities consistent with national security objectives.
The bi-annual Navy Commanders’ Conference is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from April 14 to 16.
“This edition bears great importance in view of the rapid naval deployment to protect India’s energy security, amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia with the convergence of multinational forces in the Indian Ocean region,” the Navy said on Sunday.
But it did not clarify the role it plays in protecting India’s energy security due to the disruptions in the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Over the past several years, the Indian Navy has been escorting Indian-flagged merchant ships, especially those carrying crude oil and natural gas, to ensure their safe passage through the Gulf of Oman.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, along with operational commanders and senior naval command, will review and evaluate plans to address multi-dimensional challenges in the current geostrategic environment, the Navy said.
“Beyond security imperatives, deliberations will focus on achieving critical operational success, enhancing blue water capabilities, training, human resource management, sustainable maintenance practices, effective employment of unmanned systems, operational logistics, and other key enablers of the platforms’ combat readiness.”
“The conference also holds significant significance in reaffirming the Navy’s operational doctrine, inter-service coordination and technology-driven response mechanisms post Operation Sindoor,” the Navy said in a statement.
She added that deliberations at the conference will aim to strengthen the Indian Navy as the “security partner of choice” in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific region.
She added that Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chouhan and Union Home Minister Govind Mohan will be among those who will address the leaders.
The Navy said the interactions aim to enhance interoperability and jointness, and derive a broader perspective on national stability, security architecture, and cooperative approaches to confront future maritime challenges.
The Navy Commanders’ Conference serves as a platform for close interaction with the national leadership and determining the strategic direction of naval plans.
“More broadly, the Navy High Command will review overall readiness for military success when directed by the government, in line with the four roles of the Indian Navy as outlined in the Indian Naval Doctrine,” the Navy said.
“This will require a focus on sustainable operations, expansion of international cooperation, as well as strengthening the Government of India’s vision for mutual and comprehensive security advancement across regions, and efforts towards localization and innovation,” he added.
Discussions are also scheduled to review the implementation of the AI roadmap for Navy solutions and data-driven technologies for seamless operations, she added.
