Ghaziabad police detained a rape accused and about a dozen of his supporters on charges of obstructing traffic for holding a procession outside the prison after the Hindu right-wing leader was released on bail.

Sushil Prajapati was released on bail on May 17 after spending about eight months in prison in connection with a rape case filed at Muradnagar police station in August 2025.
His supporters welcomed him with flower petals and a procession after his release from Dasna prison in Ghaziabad.

According to police, his supporters carried Prajapati on their shoulders to celebrate his release, while a convoy of vehicles, part of the celebratory procession, disrupted traffic.
The latest FIR, lodged at Masouri police station, comes in the wake of videos purportedly showing the partying on social media which sparked huge criticism from the general public.
Police said supporters drove vehicles recklessly and blocked roads, affecting public safety and movement.
Ajay Kumar, Masoori Station Officer, said that efforts are on to identify the people who participated in the march through footage and videos from CCTV cameras.
According to the police, on August 8, 2025, LLB student Prajapati was accused of raping her in an apartment in Muradnagar after making her drink a cold drink that was suspected to have been mixed with liquor.
The FIR states that Prajapati befriended the woman in 2021 and allegedly convinced her to change her law practice from Meerut to Ghaziabad by promising professional assistance and introduction to top lawyers.

On the day of the alleged incident, he called her to Muradnagar on the pretext of arranging a meeting with a senior lawyer, she says.
According to police, that day Prajapati took the woman to an apartment instead, where the alleged assault occurred.
After the FIR, the police announced a reward of Rs $25,000 for information about Prajapati’s whereabouts.
He was arrested on August 20, 2025.
