Members of the Ram Temple Association initially opposed the resignation of general secretary Champat Rai, but changed their stance after trust member and senior advocate K Parasaran explained the body’s bylaws, people familiar with the details of the meeting said.

The meeting room at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex was tense as it began around 3:15 pm on Monday, people said. The Trust’s treasurer, Govind Dev Giri, who chaired the meeting, tendered the resignation of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, they added. Rai’s resignation was the first item discussed.

What do the regulations say?
When all the trustees unanimously opposed Ray’s resignation, Parasaran, who drafted the trust’s bylaws and attended the meeting virtually, told members that according to the bylaws, once a trustee resigns, the resignation must be accepted and cannot be rejected.
He added that to reappoint the same person who resigned, he must be reappointed, according to the people mentioned above. After that, Al-Rai’s resignation was accepted. After that, there was no discussion about Anil Mishra’s resignation.

Trustee Mahant Dinendra Das suggested Yatindra Mishra’s name as new trustee in place of his father, Vimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra, who died in August 2025, people familiar with the details said. The place remains vacant. However, this issue was not discussed. The Fund decided to discuss the names of the new members at its next meeting on July 22.
When Giri proposed discussing the second agenda – the alleged theft of donation funds – Sanjay Prasad, additional secretary (home) and ex-officio member of the trust, informed the group of the findings of the special investigation team. Al-Shaab said that all secretaries demanded that strict measures be taken against the eight detainees.

Gopal Nagar Kutty, who was a specially invited member of the Trust, made all necessary arrangements for the meeting. However, he did not attend the meeting
