Addressing the 20th convocation of Mizoram University here, the Vice-Chancellor noted the shift in development discourse in the region over the past decade and lauded the Centre’s focus on the ‘Move East’ policy.
He said infrastructural landmarks, such as the recently opened Bairapi-Serang railway line, coupled with central schemes such as UDAN and PM-DevINE, were successfully integrating the region into the national mainstream.
Radhakrishnan congratulated the graduating students and urged them to consider themselves “architects of Fixit Bharat”.
He noted that the university, located in the scenic hills of Aizawl, stands as a testimony to the transformative power of education when it is rooted in peace and purpose.
“The youth of the North East must look beyond seeking employment and instead focus on creating it,” the Vice President said.
He identified tourism, bamboo-based industries, organic agriculture, handicrafts and digital services as key sectors where the region has a global competitive advantage.
In the face of social challenges, Radhakrishnan expressed grave concern over the “menace of drug abuse” among youth.
He called for a disciplined and purposeful lifestyle, urging the graduating students to lead the fight against drug abuse in their communities.
He advised the responsible use of social media and urged young people to harness digital tools for social good instead of falling prey to distractions.
Radhakrishnan also lauded the environmental awareness of Mizoram city and the university’s initiative to work largely on solar energy.
The event was also attended by Governor of Mizoram and Chancellor of MZU, Vijay Kumar Singh, Chief Minister Laldhoma and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dibakar Chandra Deka.
