He said the music and anthropology papers for the Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination, scheduled to be held on March 11 and 12, have been postponed.

Exams will continue in the rest of the state’s regions according to the specified schedule.

“HSSLC exams, scheduled to be conducted on March 11 (Music) and March 12 (Anthropology), have been canceled for West Garo Hills only. The same will be rescheduled for some other dates to be notified later,” said Meghalaya Board of School Education Accreditation Director and Controller of Examinations T R Lalu.

More than 29,000 students sit the Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination conducted by the council this year.

The decision to postpone exams in the directorate came, in light of the imposition of a curfew, amid tense conditions taking place in parts of the directorate, following violent incidents.

Lalu said precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of students and examination staff.

Another official said that two people were killed by police gunfire on Tuesday during clashes between tribal and non-tribal groups over the nomination process for local council elections in the region, prompting the government to impose a curfew and call in the army.
