Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan on Thursday said that the investigation into the gold loss in Sabarimala is continuing at a very slow pace and the government is not satisfied with it.
While arrests are being made in connection with the matter, the chargesheet in the matter is yet to be filed, Muraleedharan said.
He said that if a chargesheet is not filed by the end of this month, the government will take its displeasure to the Kerala High Court over the very slow pace of the investigation.
“We cannot stand by and watch the slow pace of the investigation,” he said.
The minister was responding to journalists’ queries regarding the detention of former Travancore Devaswom Corporation chairman PS Prasanth in connection with the Sabarimala gold loss cases.
Although the government is unhappy with the very slow pace of the investigation, it cannot take any steps until the special investigation team submits its chargesheet, Muraleedharan said.
“We are monitoring this matter closely,” he added.
Regarding Prasanth’s Facebook post in the morning, before his detention, alleging that the action taken against him was politically motivated, the minister said the former TDB chief was questioned for the first time during the tenure of the previous LDF government.
He said the recent action taken by the Special Court may have been a result of the interrogation that took place at that time.
He also said that the government did not interfere in any way in the SIT investigation by contacting its officials, seeking their opinions or making suggestions.
“But I have been informed on several occasions that the government is not satisfied with the very slow pace of the investigation,” the minister said.
He also said that with the action taken by the SIT against Prasanth, the LDF can no longer claim that it had no role in the Sabarimala gold loss cases.
Meanwhile, current TDB president K. Jayakumar said that with the SIT action against Prasanth, there will be an increase in the board’s responsibilities to ensure that the beliefs of devotees are protected and to reassure people that there are no issues at Sabarimala.
The SIT is investigating two cases related to the alleged loss of gold from Dwarapalaka idols and Sreekovil door frames at Sabarimala temple after they were taken for electroplating in 2019.
The Supreme Court recently informed the Kerala High Court that it was also investigating a similar electroplating operation carried out in 2025, when Prasanth was the Chairman of the Board of Trade and Development.
Prasanth chaired the Board of Directors from 2023 to 2025.
In a recent report filed before the Kerala High Court, the court said that the investigation into the alleged theft of gold during the electroplating exercise in September 2025 has also been merged with the Dwarapalaka idol case.
