Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin on Friday described the demarcation bill as a “calculated deception” by the Central government.

Rejecting the bill, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister urged the Center not to rush to pass the bill.

“Today is a crucial moment in the political history of Tamil Nadu. It is the day when we will see the result of our relentless resistance against demarcation,” Stalin said.
Amid the ongoing DMK protests over the bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah continued to assert in Parliament that Tamil Nadu’s representation will not be reduced.
“But their words say one thing, and their actions reveal another. The bill they have presented is nothing but a calculated deception. We completely reject it. It cannot be trusted. It will not be accepted,” Stalin said.
He added: “At any time, and in any way they choose, they can change the representation of countries to suit their political interests. This so-called legislation is a carefully crafted trap, loaded with dangerous intentions.”
He urged that the bill should not be rushed through “hastily” and the Union government should withdraw it completely.
“If they try to push it through Parliament, bolstered by the numbers they have put together, and in complete disregard of our opposition, they will face the consequences in Tamil Nadu.” He pointed out.
He demanded the restoration of the same constitutional guarantee given by late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee by freezing demarcation through constitutional amendment.
“What we demand is clear. The same constitutional guarantee given by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee by freezing demarcation must be restored through constitutional amendment. The Union BJP government must listen to the voice of Tamil Nadu,” he wrote on his official social media account.
