In a tragic incident that rocked the national capital on Saturday, a commercial express delivery agent was killed after a drunk man rammed his motorcycle into a speeding car in Delhi. The fatal accident occurred near Subhash Nagar Metro station in West Delhi.

The victim, a 25-year-old man named Hem Shankar, was the sole breadwinner in his family and worked for Zepto. He was on his way to deliver an order when the accident occurred.
Passers-by took him to the hospital before the police arrived at the scene, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Shankar’s family claimed that he was dragged under the car for several metres, before the car stopped after colliding with a metal pole and a drain cover, Hindustan Times reported earlier.
Shankar, the responsible brother
Hem Shankar, who hails from Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi, has been working with Zepto for the past year.
According to one of his relatives, he worked night shifts, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., and financed the education of his younger brother, Samir.
During the early hours of Saturday, around 3.20am, he was set for a delivery and was on his way to complete the delivery when the incident occurred. He is survived by his mother – Rukmani and two brothers.
Prey to negligence and irresponsibility
According to the statement of witness Neeraj Kumar Pandey in the copy of the First Information Report (FIR) obtained by HT, a speeding car approached Shankar’s vehicle from Janakpuri side.
The car overtook several vehicles, and when it approached the traffic signal, it suddenly deviated to the left from the right side of the road, colliding with the two-wheeled bicycle and throwing the passenger, before running over him.
A case of rash driving, causing death due to negligence, and drunk driving under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station.
Hand over the accused to the police
The accused and his friend were handed over to the police after passersby caught them while trying to escape. Their Hyundai Verna car was also severely damaged in the accident.
“We have arrested Mohit Kumar, 27, who was driving the car after consuming alcohol. Kumar, a resident of Najafgarh, works as a contractor with the Delhi Municipal Corporation. A case has been registered,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Bhaskar Darade said.
