The Center has provided ‘Y’ CISF armed security cover to Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from May 19 after threat assessment by central agencies, officials aware of the development said on Wednesday.

According to officials, security arrangements were implemented with immediate effect after central agencies assessed potential threats to the TMC member. “The cover includes armed personnel for close protection during travel and public engagements,” said an official who requested anonymity.

The move has attracted political attention as it comes amid major changes within the Trinamool Congress parliamentary leadership. Recently, party president Mamata Banerjee replaced Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as party chief in Lok Sabha and appointed senior MP Kalyan Banerjee to the post.

The cabinet reshuffle is seen as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen parliamentary coordination and management ahead of major political confrontations expected during the next session of Parliament.

Kalyan Banerjee, known for his aggressive interventions in Lok Sabha, had earlier also served as the party’s chief whip before being removed from the post. His return to office is interpreted in political circles as a sign of renewed confidence from the party leadership.

The developments have also sparked speculation in political circles in West Bengal after Dastidar recently shared a message on social media referring to her long political journey and commitment to the party.

Although she did not directly comment on her removal from the parliamentary post, the letter sparked discussions within the Trinamool Congress.

However, officials stressed that the decision to grant CISF protection was strictly based on security considerations and threat perception inputs and had no connection to internal political developments within the party.
