The Noida family described the case as “suspicious” and requested a second autopsy, as they claimed the evidence did not match the first autopsy.

A 33-year-old woman was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Bhopal last week, and her family staged a protest outside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s residence on Sunday, demanding a fresh post-mortem examination of her body at Delhi’s AIIMS.

“Why should the body be handed over when the case is questionable? The Prime Minister’s (post-mortem) report and the evidence do not match. That is why we have applied for a second post-mortem,” the father of the deceased woman was quoted as saying.

The dead woman’s mother accused the husband and his mother of killing her, and demanded their arrest.

Her father said that the government should take note of the case because the accused family has a prominent status. He was quoted as saying: “We have lost any hope of justice.”

A special investigation team has been formed to investigate allegations of dowry harassment against the woman’s husband, a lawyer, and his mother, a former judge.

The case

The 33-year-old, who hails from Noida, was found hanging at her marital home in Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12. She met the Bhopal-based lawyer through a dating app in 2024 and married him in December 2025. Less than six months after the marriage, she was found dead as her family linked her death to her in-laws’ demand for dowry.

The family claims foul play

The family claimed that her body was kept at the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) morgue in Bhopal for the last five days. Her father and brother said that officials from the Prime Minister’s Office assured them of fair procedures after they met them during the protest. He also demanded that the legal proceedings in the case be transferred to a court outside the state of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the relatives of the deceased woman, she wanted to leave Bhopal and return to Noida. They also claimed that she remained in touch with them until around 10pm on Tuesday, shortly before her death.

Her family accused the man and his mother – a retired judge – of murder. The family also claims that her in-laws physically assaulted her and then destroyed the evidence.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap, who is heading the Special Investigation Team, had earlier said that a case has been registered under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act relating to dowry death and harassment, against her absconding husband and his mother, PTI reported.

The court will investigate allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault and alleged attempts to destroy evidence after her death, officials said.
