Hyderabad Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged the Center to give early approval for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro project as a joint venture between the state and central governments, an official statement said.

Revanth Reddy met Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi and gave a presentation on the proposed expansion plans for the second and third phases of Hyderabad Metro.

The Prime Minister explained to the Union Minister that the Telangana government has already prepared and submitted a comprehensive and detailed project report (DPR) for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro line, covering seven corridors with a total length of the proposed network of 122.9 km.

According to the official statement, the estimated cost of the second phase expansion project is: $38,595 Crores. The Prime Minister asked the Center to approve the project at the earliest and provide financial and administrative support by partnering with the Telangana government for its implementation.

Revanth Reddy also asked the Center to consider the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA)-Bharat future city corridor as part of the third phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail. The Union Minister informed that the DRC regarding the third phase corridor has already been submitted to the Centre.

The proposed Airport-City of the Future Metro corridor is being planned by the Telangana government as a critical infrastructure component aimed at meeting the long-term transportation needs of Hyderabad and supporting future urbanization.

Highlighting the rapid urban growth in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy emphasized the urgent need to expand the metro rail network to meet the growing passenger demand and improve urban mobility across the city.

Khattar informed that the state government has taken over the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 1 project from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL) with an aim to ensure smooth and integrated expansion of future metro phases.

The Prime Minister said that with the government now in control of Phase 1, the implementation and integration of Phase 2 and Phase 3 projects will become easier and more efficient.

Senior officials from both the Center and the Telangana government, including Union Housing and Urban Affairs Department Secretary K Srinivas, Chief Minister’s Private Secretary P Ajith Reddy, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmed, Urban Transport Advisor to the state government NVS Reddy and others.
