Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday criticized the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) over the defeat of the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam amendments.

Speaking at a campaign rally of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Anandan Ayyasamy in Vasudevanallur constituency near Tenkasi for the April 23 polls, Singh said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will provide 33% quota for women.
“The 33% reservation law was not allowed to be passed in Parliament by the DMK, Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC). But our resolve is that we will definitely provide 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies,” he said.
Singh said DMK stands for “Dushprayogam Muraikedu Kutram”, which loosely translates to abuse of power, malfeasance and crime in Tamil.
Singh also claimed that the sacred tradition of lighting the Karthigai Deepam atop Thiruparankundram hill will be resumed again if the BJP comes to power.

The police stopped the tradition after tensions escalated in February 2025 when a member of parliament ate meat on the hill.
At another election rally in Radhapuram constituency for BJP candidate SP Balakrishnan, Singh said Tamil Nadu is one of the only two states including Uttar Pradesh that has a defense corridor.
He added: Until now $6000 crores were saved to farmers every year. If our government takes office in Tamil Nadu, we will deliver $9000 Crores as subsidy annually to farmers in Tamil Nadu.
He also claimed that subsidy will be provided during Pongal, Deepavali and Tamil New Year along with three new gas cylinders free of cost to the people of Tamil Nadu.
