New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday slammed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying he was “upset” with MP Gaurav Gogoi amid a row over alleged “Pakistani links”.She accused Sarma of attacking Gogoi and his family because he was pursuing a “politics of love”.Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Priyanka Gandhi said politics has “two types of leaders” – those who practice positive politics and those who rely on polarization and personal attacks.“There are two types of leaders – one, those with a positive mindset and others who believe in polarizing and attacking people. The way Gaurav ji (Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi) and his family are being targeted proves that this kind of politics is wrong.
I think the people of Assam know that the other side is upset with them; This is why all this happened. Because he is on the right path, he is attacked.
“It’s like a badge of honour,” she said when asked about Sarma’s repeated attacks on Gogoi over alleged Pakistani links.“No one should attack the family and children of a (political leader),” Priyanka added. The remarks come amid an ongoing political storm in Assam, where Chief Minister Himanta Sarma has repeatedly alleged that Gogoi and his wife have relations with Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and are planning to undermine India’s development.
Sarma announced that the investigation, including evidence, has been handed over to central agencies, and the SIT probe is also scheduled to be transferred. In a direct criticism, the Wayanad MP said the Assam Chief Minister should “talk about the youth and women of the state who are looking for jobs”.“You see the amount of corruption that is happening,” she told reporters. “It is just a betrayal of the people of the state.”
