Prime Minister M K Stalin on Sunday cited the support of the people and his government’s record and insisted that the secular progressive alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will win the Tamil Nadu elections scheduled for April 23 and return to power for the second time in a row.
In a message to DMK members, he said the people have already decided so. He said the joy on the faces of women and support from people, including those from minorities, would form the basis for the DMK’s victory. Citing his interaction with the people, he said that they expressed hope that the schemes announced by his party under the Dravidian model would continue to be implemented.
Stalin noted that DMK supporters were collecting votes at booth level across Tamil Nadu. He asked the party cadres to remain among the people for the next ten days. He pointed out that despite their ages, allies Dravidar Kazhagam chief K Veeramani, 92, Congress leader P Chidambaram, and Vaiko Marumalarshi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief, who is over 80, are explaining the importance of re-establishing the Dravidian model of governance during their election campaigns.
Stalin noted that from KDP Secretary General Durai Murugan, 87, to the party’s youngest member, Kokilamani, 28, everyone is working hard to achieve victory. He stressed that every vote matters. Stalin added that the cadres worked on the concept that “my booth is the winning booth” to ensure the alliance’s victory in every electoral district.
Earlier in the day, Stalin campaigned in Paramakudi, about 75 km from Chennai, during his morning march. He went door to door, interacting with people and taking pictures.
The DMK is hoping to overcome anti-incumbency to defeat the alliance led by its arch-rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Actor-turned-politician Vijay Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam is contesting elections for the first time.
