Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised the Election Commission and those involved in conducting the Assembly elections for preserving the dignity of democracy in India.

The Prime Minister was addressing party supporters who gathered at the BJP headquarters after the landslide victory in West Bengal and Assam.
“Our constitutional institutions won, our democratic processes won. In West Bengal, the voter turnout was a historic 93 per cent. In Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, new turnout numbers were recorded,” Prime Minister Modi said in his speech on Monday evening.
“Today, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Election Commission, its staff, those who worked during the elections and the security personnel. History will always remember the contribution of all of you in preserving the dignity of Indian democracy,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi thanked voters in five assemblies – Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry.
The speech comes at a time when the BJP has won in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry. The BJP was on track to become the single largest party in the West Bengal Assembly, crossing the crucial halfway mark of 148 seats.
The Prime Minister praised the leadership of party president Nitin Nabin and said that this is the first victory since the BJP MP took over as party president.
In Bengal, the BJP won or was leading in 204 seats, dashing Mamata Banerjee’s dream of a fourth term.
