Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is stable and being examined by doctors for a possible stomach and urinary tract infection, Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said in a statement on Wednesday, a day after the politician was admitted to the hospital.

Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday at 10:22 pm, news agency ANI quoted Dr Ajay Swarup, head of the medical facility, as saying.
“Her condition is stable. Doctors are conducting further investigations to check the possibility of a stomach and urinary tract infection. A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition, and she is being given antibiotics,” Dr. Swaroop said.
Gandhi was reportedly admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after suffering from respiratory problems. Ajay Swarup said that after a detailed medical examination, Sonia Gandhi’s bronchial asthma condition had worsened slightly due to the combined effects of cold weather and pollution levels prevailing in Delhi, ANI reported.
Gandhi is not feeling well, possibly due to change in weather, and has been admitted for observation, sources said, citing a PTI report. They said there was no reason for concern and that her condition was not serious.
As a precaution, doctors decided to admit her for observation and continue medical treatment.
Rahul Gandhi cancels his visit to Kerala due to his mother’s hospitalization
Rahul Gandhi, MP and son of Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday canceled his scheduled official visit to Kerala citing health concerns for his mother.
He was scheduled to start his election campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala today with a major rally in Kozhikode. Congress senior MP and party president Mallikarjun Karge later left for Kerala, which was heading to the polls in place of Rahul Gandhi.
The veteran leader was also admitted last year in June due to stomach issues. She remained under observation in the hospital’s gastroenterology department.
Gandhi was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla in Himachal Pradesh earlier the same month – on June 7 last year.
