Bangalore: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted for “a comprehensive and detailed” probe. 57-year-old real estate tycoon CJ Roy He was found dead in his office during a search by the Income Tax department, Bengaluru police said on Saturday.

Bhamshi Krishna, Joint Commissioner of Police, Western Region, and Lokesh Jagalasar, Commissioner of Police, South Division have been designated as the investigating officers.
Roy, founder of Confident Group and Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic, allegedly committed suicide on Friday at his firm’s office in the city. According to Confident Group Managing Director TA Joseph’s statement to the police, Roy went to the Langford Road office to make a statement to tax officials.
Joseph told police that after entering his cabin, Ray locked the door, claiming he needed to talk to his mother. When staff finally broke through, they found him unresponsive with gunshot wounds from his licensed firearm. An ambulance was called, but medical personnel reported no pulse. He was declared dead after being brought to the hospital.
His brother, Babu Roy, linked his brother’s death to the proceedings initiated by the Income Tax department. Babu Roy told reporters that the tax authorities conducted searches at the company’s premises in December 2025. The tax officials came to the office again on January 29 and asked Roy to attend the next day.
“My brother told me many times that the pressure from the Income Tax department is too much. Even on the morning of January 30, he spoke to me. He was under a lot of pressure for the past few days. I am not sure what kind of pressure they put on him, but he had no debt or financial problems. I have lost my brother,” he told reporters.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the police have started a preliminary investigation and decisions on further action will follow the findings.
“Several aspects need to be looked into as to what happened before the incident and what led him to take the extreme step. I have directed the police to conduct a detailed investigation. After the report is submitted, the facts will be clear and further decisions will be taken accordingly,” he said.
The minister, however, stressed that claims of harassment involving tax inquiries are yet to be examined.
“We have not thought about the IT harassment angle at this stage. The team has not yet looked into the IT aspect. If such details come up in the investigation, they will be looked into,” he said.
The city police commissioner, who ordered the formation of the SIT for “a comprehensive and thorough investigation of the case”, said in a statement that the team was empowered to include additional officers and resources as required.
All concerned officials have been directed to assist in ensuring a “lawful, expeditious and effective investigation”, the police statement said. An unusual death report has been filed at the Ashok Nagar police station, and the death is being treated as a case of suicide.
