Nine members of a family, including six children, were killed in a freak accident late at night in Shivajinagar area of ​​Dindori tehsil in Nashik district of Maharashtra on Friday.

According to Dindori Police Inspector Bhagwan Mathur, the car veered off the road and the driver apparently failed to notice the roadside well in the darkness. According to the report, all passengers were trapped under the submerged car.

Local residents helped in the rescue efforts

Two cranes were deployed, while local swimmers assisted in the rescue efforts. “None of the passengers survived,” Dindori Mathur police inspector said.

Passengers were reportedly trapped inside after the vehicle was submerged in water.

Police teams and local residents rushed to the scene and began the rescue operation. Officials said: “It was difficult to recover the car because it was submerged in a well containing a large amount of water.”

Describing the incident, Mahajan said: “The car fell into the well at night. All nine people died. How could there be a well in the middle? This is a very big mistake by the officials. We have ordered an investigation,” news agency ANI reported.

“The families of the deceased will be given Rs 5 lakh from the administration,” he added.

Dindori police registered a case and opened an investigation into the incident.
